|
Hapkido is a Korean martial art that is well known for its self-defence applications. It incorporates various strikes, kicks, throws and joint locks as a means to prepare the student to defend against common and uncommon attacks. Weapon training is also incorporated into the curriculum to insure that students will have a better knowledge of how to defend against firearms as well as blunt and edged weapons. Hapkido’s approach to self-defence is to circumvent and harmonize with the attacker in order to penetrate the attacker’s defences. A Hapkidoist can stop and control an attacker using a great variety of joint locks, strikes and kicks. This great flexibility of responses provides the Hapkidoist with more effective and legally viable options in dealing with physical confrontation. Hoshinkido is an officially recognized style of Hapkido created by Grandmaster Serge Baubil (9th Dan). Utilizing his 45 years of martial arts experience, Grandmaster Baubil codified traditional Korean martial art techniques in order to better adapt them for westerners. The teaching of Hoshinkido Hapkido is based on the original Hapkido systems of Bum Moo Kwan Hapkido and Moo Moo Kwan Hapkido. Hoshinkido Hapkido has also been influenced by other Korean martial arts such as Kuk Sul Won.
